I took Digit to the vets today for his boosters (he looooved that lol!)
The practice has been sold so it was a new guy.....and as they do, he brought the subject round to Diij's one cahooney.

and miracle of miracles, he is more than happy to remove the retained one and leave the perfectly happy one THE HELL ALONE!

I can't tell you what a relief (and surprise) this was. I generally have to put up with vets telling me it's irresponsible not to get him neutered and would be unethical to leave his correct one behind. I really don't see teh logic in this. i don't have bitches, Digit isn't allowed to roam and I don't lend him, out - so how on earth he's supposed to father unplanned litters is beyond me. ph34r.gif

I do not believe in cutting bits off my dog where there is no need to do so, and castrating a dog has wide reaching consequences, way beyond preventing puppies. Hormonal systems are delicate things, the individual hormones do not act in isolation. Remove one and there is a knock on effect on all the others.

I take my stance because I believe it to be in my dog's best interests, and up to now i have decided to accept the increased risk of cancer in order to keep his hormones intact. But now i don't need to make the choice - he can have the troublesome one removed and the good one will continue to produce enough of what he needs to keep his body running smooth.

I am very happy, although it has been odd talking about sperm today more than i ever thought necessary! tongue.gif

Just thought I'd share!
