LOOKING FOR A BIT OF INFO.
WENT OUT FOR A SHINE TONIGHT WITH ACE ON A BIT OF GROUND I USE REGULARLY. THE PROBLEM WAS THE HOUSE THATS BESIDE THE GROUNDS IS NOT THE F RMERS WHICH I THOUGHT IT WAS AS I GET THE NOD FROM THE MAN OF THE HOUSE. ANYWAY AS I WAS LEAVING AND HEADING TO THE CAR A JEEP SPED IN TRIED TO KNOCK ACE DOWN WHICH FORTUNATELY MISSED THEN HE CAME OUT WITH HIS SHOTGUN THREATENING TO SHOOT THE DOG. AS I DIDNT HAVE HIM ON THE LEAD THE FARMERS WIFE WAS WITH HIM AND TOOK HOLD OF ACE. AFTER A FEW POLITELY SPOKEN WORDS THE GUN ENDED UP BACK IN HIS JEEP. HE TOLD ME HE WAS TAKING THE DOG AND SHOOTING IT. I THEN DROPED ALL MY GEAR LUNGED FOR BOTH FARMERS TOOK HOLD OF ACE. HE THEN TOLD ME THAT THE HUNTING LAWS CHANGED AND DOGS ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO HUNT ANY ANIMAL AS OF LAST YEAR. I TOLD HIM I WASNT HUNTING BUT HAVING A LOOK AND HE HAD NO RITES AS THERE IS NO TRESPASSING LAW IN SCOTLAND.... F

[edit] What the law stops: the exemption/loophole issue
The meaning of the Hunting Act is a matter of substantial public dispute. The Countryside Alliance claim that the Act is unclear, while the League Against Cruel Sports argues the opposite. The difference between the two centres around the alternative views that the Act contains either "tightly drawn exemptions" or "glaring loopholes."
For example, letters from Countryside Alliance officials to a series of local newspapers around the UK in early 2006 [10], say, "The act makes it an offence to hunt a mouse with a dog but not a rat, you can legally hunt a rabbit but not a hare. You can flush a fox to guns with two dogs legally but if you use three it's an offence. You can flush a fox to a bird of prey with as many dogs as you like." The sections below examine whether such exemptions allow loopholes.
[edit] Hunting mice, rats, rabbits and hares
The Hunting Act bans activities that Parliament believed to be cruel sports and permitted activities that it believed to be necessary for land managers. Parliament accepted the view that, where rats and rabbits were pests, hunting them was legitimate.[11] MPs did not believe that there was any necessity to use dogs to hunt mice or hares, which is why these activities were not exempted from the Act.
These two exemptions do not make it possible for "traditional" hunting to continue. Rabbits tend to stay very close to their warrens and will go underground at the sight of dogs, thus not providing the chase that hunts need.
Whether or not the laws have changed (and I seriously doubt they have!) this idiot has no right to act in the way he did and you must do something about it!
> Trying to knock your dog over with his jeep can probably be classed as an offence under several animal welfare and road traffic acts.
> His whole attitude is that of threatening behaviour - not something the old bill want to see from someone who holds a shotgun (and possibly) firearms licence.
> Taking your dog without a court order is theft. If he attempted to take the dog then he should be reported for attempted theft.
> If he had stolen your dog then he would have no right to shoot it - again not the actions of a shotgun/firearms certificate holder.
If I were in your shoes I'd be doing everything I could to get this plank spoken to (at least) by those in authority.
Crow
the farmer has broken various laws and acted irresposibly ,that said you need written permission from the farmer /landowner or his/her agent .this permission must be carried with you . that is easy said ,its hard enough getting permission never mind getting written permission . we have forms made up nothing elaborate something the farmer can read within seconds and then signs .i must confess i dont carry mine all the time .however while lamping it would be an idea at least to displat it in the car window ,and if asked you could show anyone back at the car .i know this seems a bit of trouble however a couple of local lads have been stopped and taken for questioning ,and the fact that no written permission was provided has gone against them .
im sure forces throughout britain are trying to get -*test*-('") cases through the courts to close any loop holes that do exist .so please be aware .however your treatment was harsh as far as i was aware a farmer is only allowed to shoot a dog if it is worrying his/her stock

Who says?
There is nothing in the Hunting Act that says so!
