If you're putting a rough coated dog into a show, do you bother brushing?

I've got 3 roughies, the beddie cross is broken coated, a bit like a border terrier coat so I just strip the untidy bits on him. The deerhound cross needs a fair amount of brushing at the moment as he's going through a coat change so if anyone needs downy type stuffing for pillows I've got plenty
I also brush the smooth coated ones as well as a couple of them have a lot of under coat.
I think it's a matter of pride to have you're dogs looking at their best when showing them. ( I'll get off my soap box now )
