as i was planning this weeks hunting with my mate joe, he had said his workmate was interested in going out ferreting. so with the attitude that it would probably not happen i carried on the rest of the week. untill last night when joe called to confirm times and the venue for the hunt.

so we left the house this morning at 9am, and i was shocked to see that joes mate, had arrived in a tracksuit and a matching pair of Nike airmax.. i thought id best offer him a loan of a pair of boots so he had the hunters.

we arrived at the farm and i went to speak to the farmer to ensure we wernt in the way. this was fine and we parked the car for today. and got the gear together. due to me loosing a locator collar and the replacement not arriving we would be using 1 ferret and as many of the warrens are just that bit to big its a hard days work for the ferret.

the first warren of the day was along a small hedge that has been trimed rite back this little warren is a pleasure to ferret and we soon had 2 rabbits in the bag dispite the noise from a certain persons phone. the next warren was unoccupied and we moved to a bigger hedge warren that was a dead cert for rabbits to be home, the warren was based under some holly trees with just some young nettles to get in the way. after a few minutes joe and i had netted up and entered the ferret. after 10 minutes there was a few rumbles below us and no sign of the ferret. i give it a futher 10 minutes before having a look with the locator. the ferret was on the move between 3 holes in the hedge.

suddenly to the left of me the net rocketed out and ther was stuggle going on between the rabbit and net to which the net was coming off worse and just as the rabbit managed to kick free i managed to secure it. and with in a few minutes another bolt this time it was the other side of the hedge and i made a dive trough the fence to secure it leaving half my combats on the fence aswell as some of my leg. after this things settled down for the day and we had our first dig at 2 foot in sandy soil no major problems and both rabbit and ferret retrieved.

we carried on to the next warren this one was a really hard warren to work with a black thorn hedge that was very thick. and also no accurate locator readings. we had 2 rabbits out of this warren one of which slipped the nets but thats a breeder for next season.

the next warren was one thats abit famous among us, ( its the set with the broken knee) where a mate of mine while diving for a rabbit on camera hit a brick and rolled around for ages complaining laugh.gif

i decided i should take some pics so i took a step back and let joe ferret this one. after a few minutes ther was a rabbit out and two people running to secure i. both of which fell and the rabbit managed to escape

so at the end of the day we had 6 rabbits
